Hiking trip across the Havel lakes around Potsdam

1. to 4.9.2022 (without arrival and departure day)

All participants were enthusiastic. Alan from St. Pauls, Minnesota, had the longest journey.
He came by plane.
Maria came by bicycle.

A report with many pictures will follow. The most important thing is to announce already now: Wolfgang will organize a trip again next year!

On this hiking trip from 1.9. to 4.9.2022 (without arrival and departure) we see the Großer Wannsee, the Kleiner Wannsee, the Griebnitzer See and row past Potsdam to the Templiner See. Afterwards we continue to the Petzinsee, through the picturesque Wentowgraben, an enchanted narrow passage, into the Schwielowsee, along the Havel to reach the island town Werder. From there we row over the large and small Zernsee always further on the Havel to Deetz and back to Ketzin. From there we will row through the Sacrow-Paretzer canal via the Jungfernsee northeast of Potsdam back to the Wannsee. On Sunday, a spectacular trip across the Wannsee to Spandau is on the schedule. There we will "row" through the canals of "Little Venice" and then return to the rowing club in Potsdam. (In case of strong wind this trip has to be cancelled).

From the Potsdam Rowing Club Germania, which is located next to the Liebermann Villa, we will borrow 3 gig-boats for a maximum of 15 rowers (!). I already have a promise from Mr Langer!

The total distance on all 4 days rowing is just less than 130 km. The current is very low. We will also have problems with navigation and boat traffic. Therefore I expect a rowing speed of only about 5 km/h. Boarding and disembarking will be done in many places not via planks, but in the water (don't forget water shoes!).

A classic land service - as on rivers - is not planned, as the rowing participants will be driven back to the hotel in Potsdam from each of the stage destinations by large-capacity cabs. Instead, an attractive sightseeing program is planned for those who are not rowing.

I have chosen beer gardens for the evening meals together, not least because of the size of the group and the possibility of sitting outside in good weather.

I try to organise necessary journeys with large-capacity taxis.

Unser Hotel für die gesamte Zeit wird das Mercure Hotel Potsdam City (Lange Brücke, 14467 Potsdam, T: +49 331 2722, F: +49 331 272233, info@mercure-hotel-potsdam.de ) sein. Es liegt unmittelbar an den Havelterrassen zwischen Hauptbahnhof (400 Meter), Stadtschloss und Nikolaikirche.
